Volume 1 of Serenity Ministries 4 Jesus Christ Playlist

Complete Playlist

Few things can affect ones moods and emotions like music. They can turn you from sad to happy and vice versa. They can help you to focus as well. To this affect for the next several days I would like to share with you my playlist of my music that I listen to be encouraged in the Lord. I will share a little also of why the song means so much to me.  Let's begin.

1. Sing Your Praise To The Lord - Rich Mullins

I start with Rich Mullins - Sing Your Praise To The Lord. I first heard this song back in 1999 when I attended Panola Jr College. It was often played over the sound system while lunch was being prepared and I feel in love with it. It wasn't until years later that I discovered that Rich Mullins had passed away. Now when I hear the song it helps bring my focus onto God and helps me to reminisce and remember my days at Panola. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

2. Mission 3:16 - Carmen

This is another older song. I first discovered it while listening to songs on the world of worship CDs. This song means a lot to me as my job can tend to be rough where I work, especially when I first started out almost ten years ago. It was hard physical labor. This song has a sort of James Bond feel to it (remarkably enough I have never actually watched any of the James Bond movies). When I listen to this song it helps me get pumped to enter the work place and my field that God has given.

3. Praise You In This Storm - Casting Crowns

This is by far one of my favorite Christian groups of not my absolute favorite. I was blessed enough to see them in concert years ago and it was awesome. One reason that this song means so much to me is that I have definitely faced storms in my life and just have to be reminded that God is God in the good times and the bad. Going through my divorce years ago, during the times where I had no job, during the times when I was out of school and unsure if I would be able to return....God was there. Take a listen. God bless you all!

4. Fly Like A Bird - Mariah Carey

While this song is sung by a secular artist, she just happens to be my favorite singer of all time. Period. This song has meant so much over the years for me as I long to fly like a bird and soar above my sorrows and problems of everyday life. As is said in the song with is taken from Psalm 30:5: "Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning". May we be patient and endure strong until our time of deliverance. God bless and enjoy!

5.
King Of Glory - Third Day

If I had to pick any one song to be the theme of the ministry this would be that song. This to me represents what it is all about. Why do I continue day by day through the struggles? Why do I strive to help others when I can? Who do I strive to get closer to and build a relationship with? His name is Jesus! And he is the King of Glory! Be blessed family!

6. Cut - Plumb

Originally there were two songs saved as number 6 in this playlist. God laid on my heart that I should remove or cut one of the songs from the playlist. The song removed was "The Game Is Raw" by Dooney Da Priest. How poetic is is then that this song is named "Cut". Sometimes God has to cut some things out of our lives to make room for better things. The things cut may not even be bad things but he has something better in mind for us. One part of this song claims "I am not alone". How true is this! Even when we feel alone we are never truly alone if we have God in our hearts. So please enjoy.

7. Ageless Medley - Amy Grant

This is a great mix of songs that Amy sings. In the beginning of creating this list years ago this was the last song on the list. At the end of the medley is the song "sing your praise to the Lord" which you may remember as number one from Rich Mullens. God has since given me more songs for the playlist. I hope you enjoy.

8. I Feel The Joy Of The Lord - Worship Jam Kids?

The first time I heard this song was sung by the wife of pastor Brent Crosswhite of Apostolic Pentecostal church in Nacogdoches. I would much rather had the one of her singing then the one I have here but have not been able to get a copy of her singing.

This version is cool as well as it has a kids bop type sound to it. I hope you enjoy!

9. The Devil is a Liar - Wright Sisters

This is a song about the devil. It is my privilege to know these two ladies personally. We went to panola junior college together. I have recently discovered that they are still in the Christian music business. You can Google Wrightous productions I believe to see more. Anyways this song is about how the devil is sneaky and constantly after us and we have to be on our guard. Enjoy!

10. The Devil Is Bad - The W's

Years ago I took a couple lessons on swing dancing. I really enjoyed it and should take more. During that time I discovered this little gem. Enjoy!

11. Everything - Lifehouse

Years ago I watched a skit with this song in it. This is one of the more meaningful songs in my playlist. It is about making God our everything and not trying to fill the void with other stuff. If you wish to see the skit just search Lifehouse everything original skit on YouTube. Thanks and God bless.

One of my favorite Christian bands is a band called ApologetiX. They are a Christian parody band. Think Weird Al Yancovich with a Christian message. The song I am sharing with you today is not by ApoligetiX but the message it sends is that it is ok to listen to this music. I believe any music can be good to listen to, just the lyrics aren't always good. I know this can be a topic of controversy and I am not trying to stir that up. I just know myself I love music in general of all sorts and love that we can use Christian Rock etc to focus on God and receive and spread his word.

13.
Here We Come Yall - Dooney

It was my pleasure to get to listen to this group perform live at SFA years ago. This is a Christian gospel rock rap group out of Dallas Tx. The reason I like this song so much is that it feels like an army let's get ready to go into action type of song. Listen to it and tell me it doesn't get you pumped. (Well maybe if you're not a fan of rap music, but even then it's good). Enjoy!

14. Whatcha Lookin 4 Remix - Kirk Franklin

This song has meant so much to me in times where I have felt lonely. There are times when I have felt that nobody really cares. I mean I have my family and my friends but not that special love in my life. I have searched and searched and this song speaks to me. God is speaking to me: what are you looking for? God is the love I need. We can't rely on anyone else to make us happy and love us like God can.

15. Who Is This - The Insyderz

Years ago my sister and I sang this song in our church as a duet. Since then this song has had a special place in my heart.

16. Beautiful Things - Grungor

Three years ago at this time, I was doing my internship at the mosaic center (Christian women's job corps) in Lufkin. At a banquet fundraiser that they had before graduation I was asked to help to set up and help run the projector for the video played. The video was a variation of this video by Gungor. I decided to share this original video becsue I have watched it several times and it really speaks to me. A friend of mine at Woodland Christian church before he moved away once told me: God doesn't make any junk. This has been such a hard message for me to receiver because of my low self esteem but it is so true. God made me beautiful. God made you beautiful. Let us never forget that.

17.
To My Suprise - Eowyn

This is one of the newest songs I have felt lead to add to the playlist. Funny because for the longest time it was accidentally mixed in with my mashups. I really like the sound of this song as well as the message. You can hear the desperation in the artist voice. I sometimes feel just as desperate.

18.
Gotta Serve Somebody - Bob Dylan

This song is an older one but it definitely has some truth to it.  It is another more recent one I have felt lead to add to the list.  No matter who you are, you're gonna have to serve somebody.

19. My Own Prison - Creed

I want to share another song which was recently added to the playlist. This song is from the view point of a non believer after he has died and gone to Hell. It is a reminder that we need to trust in God and keep him first.  Enjoy!

20.
We're An Army - Red Ink Army

Years ago there was a group called Men of God which had a Bible Study out of the Yellow House (Church of Christ student center). From this group I discovered a musical group called the Channel (also known as the Red Ink Army). Also featured in this song is a man named Drew Wilson. Drew has been a close friend of mine for years. He used to attend the Association of baptist students with me and was also a DJ at KSWP Christian radio for years. I believe this is a good song to end volume on as it is a call to battle.

Bonus Track: Running Up That Hill - Placebo

This song means so much to me because I have wronged people in the past, especially my immediate past. To these people I am sorry and I wish I could take back the pain I caused. As the song says "if I only could make a deal with God, I would get him to swap our places." I would gladly take the pain upon myself so that you wouldn't have to suffer it anymore. God bless you all.
